Old Shadowfall: Ruins     You are in Old Shadowfall, a section of the town that lies in ruins anddesolation.  The place is hardly a city anymore, for it has been overgrown byvegetation for years.  Large trees now sprout from the ruins of old buildings. You can see only pathways of thick grass where there were once busy streets. With a bit of work, you can make out bleached white walls where buildings oncestood whole, but now these places are little more than tiny clearings in thetrees.  To the west, you can see the river and the tree-trunk bridge to theother side of it.  The ruins of Old Shadowfall lead off to the south. It is made oflarge tree trunks, lashed together with large ropes. You can see the riverthrough the gaps between the trunks, and the footing is quite slick. There are booths and stalls placed haphazardly all over the square,not all of them showing their wares proudly. You think that you could findalmost anything for sale here, if you have the money to buy it with. There arescraps of paper strewn all over the floor. The place is ashambles, as can be seen from these gates. They are more of an archway than anactual passage, for there are no doors within the twisted frames. The stonewalls fare no better. They are crumbling almost as you watch. If it were notfor the dark, grey-green vines covering them, they might have fallen longbefore now. You watch people enter and exit the city gates, and notice thatthey are slow, and oddly quiet. They take no notice of each other, and the gateguards here take no notice of them either. You can almost feel the povertycreep into you.
