The place is ashambles, as can be seen from these gates. They are more of an archway than anactual passage, for there are no doors within the twisted frames. The stonewalls fare no better. They are crumbling almost as you watch. If it were notfor the dark, grey-green vines covering them, they might have fallen longbefore now. You watch people enter and exit the city gates, and notice thatthey are slow, and oddly quiet. They take no notice of each other, and the gateguards here take no notice of them either. You can almost feel the povertycreep into you. The place is a mixture of forest and rubble, with weeds and bushesgrowing where cobbled streets once were. Only rarely do you catch a glimpse ofthe ruins of a building. The main street of Shadowfall lies just to the West,should you wish to return to safety. To the East, you see a bridge in thedistance. A large lake lies to the North, and more ruins lie to the South. The ruins continue to the West, and you can see abridge to the East. To the South you notice the banks of a river, and to thenorth you notice a trail heading into the forest. It is in horrible condition, and has gapingholes in the floor and railings. It looks as if you cannot possibly walk outany farther on the bridge...there are only rotting support beams spanning therest of the River. It is a ruined placewhere only the remnants of buildings can be seen through the dense thickets andbushes.  Trees dot the landscape, and only every now and then do you actuallynotice the ruins of a building in the landscape.  This place must have beenabandoned decades ago, for it seems to be more of the ruins.  You can see thatOld Shadowfall stretches off to the North and South, while the bridge leadingto Shadowfall lies to the West.  Off to the East you see the remains of whatappears to be an abandoned road. As if mocking the ruins of the city, a largetent has been set up here.
