The land is lit up by the eerie light of the new moon.

Swamp Path:

   The bamboo walkway continues to the south, and although the hollow branches
are simply placed atop each other, with no twining or notches to secure them,
the branches do not slip.  The differing shades of the bamboo branches forms an
intricate pattern, one too subtle to have occured randomly.   The trees around
the swamp look strangely top heavy, for the mud has swallowed all evidence of
their roots and covered much of their trunks.  As you wonder what other items
might lie beneath the mud, thick bubbles slowly form under the surface of the
soil, slowly popping with the sound of escaping sulpher.  Your curiousity is
not worth withstanding the smell...
