You are in Old Shadowfall, to the East of the city. It is a ruined place where only the remnants of buildings can be seen through the dense thickets and bushes. Trees dot the landscape, and only every now and then do you actually notice the ruins of a building in the landscape. This place must have been abandoned decades ago, for it seems to be more of the ruins. You can see that Old Shadowfall stretches off to the North and South, while the bridge leading to Shadowfall lies to the West. Off to the East you see the remains of what appears to be an abandoned road. As if mocking the ruins of the city, a large tent has been set up here.

This is the Shadowfall Bridge. It is in horrible condition, and has gaping holes in the floor and railings. It looks as if you cannot possibly walk out any farther on the bridge...there are only rotting support beams spanning the rest of the River.

You are in Old Shadowfall, a ruined section of the city that is avoided by the townsfolk, for monsters prowl these areas, and they try to attack the town often. The place is a mixture of forest and rubble, with weeds and bushes growing where cobbled streets once were. Only rarely do you catch a glimpse of the ruins of a building. The ruins continue to the West, and you can see a bridge to the East. To the South you notice the banks of a river, and to the north you notice a trail heading into the forest.

The Shadowfall Marketplace is a large square of activity in this quiet, grimy city. There are booths and stalls placed haphazardly all over the square, not all of them showing their wares proudly. You think that you could find almost anything for sale here, if you have the money to buy it with. There are scraps of paper strewn all over the floor.

You have come to the gates of the city of Shadowfall. The place is a shambles, as can be seen from these gates. They are more of an archway than an actual passage, for there are no doors within the twisted frames. The stone walls fare no better. They are crumbling almost as you watch. If it were not for the dark, grey-green vines covering them, they might have fallen long before now. You watch people enter and exit the city gates, and notice that they are slow, and oddly quiet. They take now notice of each other, and the gate guards here take no notice of them either. You can almost feel the poverty creep into you.
